Metropolitan Jewish Health System

Metropolitan Jewish Health System was founded in 1907 by The Four Brooklyn Ladies based on the core values of compassion, dignity and respect. With the help of charitable support, they provided poor, elderly members of the community with quality health care and a safe place to live. From that small building among the tenements, MJHS has become one of the largest and most innovative charitable not-for-profit health systems in the region. Today the programs and services of the organization include: home care, hospice and palliative care for adults and children, Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care and the research-based MJHS Institute for Innovation in Palliative Care. It also includes Elderplan, which offers health plans for Medicare and Dual Eligible beneficiaries and its managed long- term care plan, HomeFirst, one of the original MLTC plans in New York. Many MJHS programs and services are aided by grants from MJHS Foundation, which is supported by private and corporate donations.

Humber River Hospital

Humber River Hospital is one of Canada’s largest regional acute care hospitals, serving a catchment area of more than 850,000 people in the northwest GTA. The hospital currently operates on three sites with a total of 549 beds, 3,000 staff, approximately 700 physicians and 400 volunteers. Affiliated with the University of Toronto and Queen`s University, the hospital is home to Ontario’s first Centre of Excellence for laparoscopic bariatric surgery; Canada’s first home nocturnal dialysis program and a major cancer program. Humber River’s redevelopment plan, approved by the provincial government, saw the official groundbreaking ceremony take place on December 2, 2011. The new Humber River will be Ontario’s first digital hospital, one that Humber River plans to make a technological and environmental showcase. HOK, one of the world’s leading healthcare design teams, has been retained to provide the design compliance services for the new hospital project. We’re about our patients first and foremost, and helping them when they need us is our purpose, something we try to do with respect and compassion every day. Every patient is offered an opportunity to share their hospital experience with us, and we look to that feedback for guidance when developing plans to encourage success and improvement across the organization. Satisfied patients - that’s the most important goal for our organization, and measuring how well we do in that effort is the key benchmark for our hospital’s performance.
