Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the treatment of obesity. Orexigen developed Contrave® (naltrexone HCl and bupropion HCl extended release), which is approved in the United States and is being commercialized there by the company`s North American partner, Takeda Pharmaceuticals. In Europe the drug has been approved under the brand name Mysimba™ (naltrexone HCl/ bupropion HCl prolonged release). Orexigen`s strategy for Contrave/ Mysimba is to pursue marketing authorizations worldwide and pharmaceutical partnerships for global commercialization.
