The university can trace its beginning to 1891 when members of the Church of the Brethren, moving west to California, founded Lordsburg College. When the surrounding agricultural community of Lordsburg was renamed to La Verne in 1917, the institution followed suit and La Verne College was established. To provide opportunities for students to achieve their educational goals and become contributing citizens to the global community. The University affirms a philosophy of life that actively supports peace with justice, the health of the planet and its people.
