The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the professional architectural industry. As a senior member of the leadership team, this position plays a key role in advancing the mission of the organization through development of financial management strategies, performance measurements and standards, and analysis of progress towards achieving the firm`s goals.
Duties: STRATEGY & LEADERSHIP
• Participate in the development of the firm`s plans and programs as a major contributor, providing strategic financial input and leadership on issues affecting the firm.
• Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning, including the introduction of new programs, services and delivery locations.
• Represent the firm with key external partners by fostering ongoing positive relations with key constituencies, including banking, insurance, legal, and accounting advisors.
• Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, including earnings and expenditures, financial reports, and economic and industry trends in order to assist the CEO/President, the Board and other Directors in performing their responsibilities.
• Serve as a senior management liaison effectively communicating and presenting critical financial matters at board, committee and employee meetings.
• Serve as an advisor on the negotiation of financial terms of project contracts.
• Continually improve the departmental and project budgeting process through education of managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.
OPERATIONS & FINANCE
• Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization`s fiscal functions and performance at macro and micro levels and help develop plans to anticipate and address deviations or shortfalls
• Establish credibility through effective development of solutions to business challenges.
• Develop and implement effective project accounting and general accounting policies and procedures.
• Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures through systems that improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the firm.
• Direct the preparation of budgets, including earnings and expenditures, and financial forecasts.
• Develop and maintain a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs, while optimizing the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiating appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
• Execute effective tax planning and compliance.
• Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the firm may enter.
• Oversee payroll processes.
TEAM LEADERSHIP
• Provide organizational leadership, leading their team on a day to day basis, as well as being looked to as a team leader and educator within the Executive Team and key liaison for the Chief Executive Officer and staff members.
• Evaluate the finance group structure and team plan for continual improvement and efficiency and effectiveness as well as providing staff members with professional and personal growth.
• Foster an environment of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Mentor staff and promote a culture of communications and collaboration.
Qualifications: • An experienced leader and financial executive with appropriate industry experience in a professional service organization, preferably in an architectural or design-oriented, multi-office, international environment.
• An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards.
• A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgement and strong operational focus.
• A well organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
• An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
• A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor.
• Master`s degree in business administration, accounting or finance with a CPA preferred.
• Ten to fifteen years of experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted direction and planning.
